Introducing the Michelin Pilot Sport 4
Kwik Fit | Monday 11th April 2016 2:33pm

Michelin’s
new generation performance tyre for premium saloons and sports cars is now
available at Kwik Fit. The Pilot Sport 4 combines the French tyre
manufacturer’s motorsport experience with millions of miles of performance tyre
research resulting in a tyre that provides excellent tread life, comfort and
wet performance that has become synonymous with the Michelin brand.
Every
new Michelin product is the result of years of research at Michelin’s
state-of-the-art Technology Centre and each tyre endures thousands of tests
both in the lab and on the road. The Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is of course no
different but also benefits from a new strategy implemented by Michelin which
saw over 3,000 vehicles across the UK, Germany, France, Sweden and Spain fitted
with ultra-sophisticated sensors that transmit real time information about
driver behaviour, temperature conditions and vehicle usage. Over several
months, Michelin were able to collect over 23 million miles of driver and road
data that allowed the company to incorporate several major innovations into the
new Pilot Sport 4 that are perfectly suited to the performance tyre market.
Features
The
Michelin Pilot Sport 4 is the first tyre to feature Michelin’s ‘Dynamic Response’
technology which improves on the precise steering feel of previous Pilot Sport
models. Dynamic Response consists of a hybrid belt of aramid and nylon
reinforcement around the tyre that is five times more durable than steel to
maintain optimal directional control. The result is a contact patch that
remains in constant contact with the road even at high speeds when centrifugal force could
ordinarily warp the tyre.

The tread of the Pilot Sport 4 incorporates a new compound mix of functional elastomers and fine silica to provide excellent braking and improved fuel efficiency and overall tyre lifespan. Tests carried out by DEKRA found that the Michelin Pilot Sport 4 provided 19.6% more mileage than Michelin’s leading premium competitors. Wide, deep longitudinal grooves also provide better water evacuation on wet roads which has helped the Pilot Sport 4 achieve an EU Tyre Label rating of A in the wet braking category across all current sizes available.
The Pilot Sport 4 also features an ultra-reactive tread pattern design that continuously adapts to the road surface that’s derived from Michelin’s motor sport experience including the Formula E Grand Prix, the World Rally Championship and, most notably, the Le Mans 24 Hour Race in which every winner since 1998 has used Michelin tyres.
