The EV Cars With The Longest Range

Looking for an electric vehicle that can keep up with you? Increasingly, drivers are looking for more from their EVs — more power and more range, that is.
When it comes to how long EVs can last without charge, it’s safe to say that the average electric car can run between 150-300 miles on one charge — more than enough for the daily commuter.
However, this range varies based on a number of factors such as battery size, outside temperature, and vehicle size and streamlining, meaning that there are some EVs out there that can last longer than others.
So which EV cars can last the longest without charge? Read on to find out.
1. Hyundai Ioniq 6
Starting strong, we have the Hyundai Ioniq 6 that allows you to enjoy 382 miles of cruising before it’s time for a recharge.
This model seems to depart significantly from the previous Ioniq 6, despite being based on the same e-GMP platform. But this time, the Ioniq 6 has a series of different battery and drivetrain setups. This rear-wheel drive model has a 77.4kWh battery and can charge from 10% to 80% at a record speed of 18 minutes.
2. BMW i7
BMW has gone electric with their flagship saloon car — and the results are impressive. The i7 has a significant range of 389 miles, putting up a good fight against similar-sized Tesla and Mercedes models.
The single battery on this model is a very large 101.7kWh unit. However, the way in which BMW has designed this battery allows it to slip into the main body of the car unnoticed; it’s much slimmer than usual batteries, meaning it doesn't intrude into the cabin space.
Some of the main attractions of the i7 are its virtually-silent driving experience and its consideration for the passengers in the back. The luxurious ‘Rear Comfort Pack’ allows passengers in the rear seats to not only recline their seats electronically but to heat and ventilate them too. All that without even mentioning the 31-inch 8k theatre screen that’s folded away back there too.
3. Mercedes EQE 394
In third place with a range of 394 miles is the Mercedes EQE (get used to seeing the name ‘Mercedes’ on this list).
This saloon car is 100% electric and uses a large 90kWh battery for power. As for the motor, it has 288bhp and 530Nm of torque on the rear axle. This, along with its sleek, streamlined design, means it can reach some impressive speeds and gives it immense power.
Also, this speed extends to how fast it can charge, taking just 33 minutes to charge from 10% to 80%. If you’re looking for a stylish car that can handle long, frequent road trips (and won’t have you waiting in service stations for hours on end), this is the option for you.
4. Tesla Model S
Our penultimate candidate is the Tesla Model S which has a range of 405 miles. Back in 2021, this EV underwent a significant upgrade and the Long Range model was introduced. Although EVs often get bad reps for their lack of power, the Long Range Model S can accelerate from 0 to 60mph in as little as 3.1 seconds.
Aside from speed and range, the huge luggage-bearing capacity of this car makes it perfect for long drives, comfortably seating 4 adults and 895 litres of storage room for suitcases. Additionally, unique to Tesla is the self-driving function that you just don’t get with other EVs.
5. Mercedes EQS
Taking the top spot with an impressive range of 453 miles is yet another Mercedes — the EQS. This is currently the longest-range electric vehicle for sale in the UK and has only been out a few months.
The reason for its impressive range is owing to its enormous battery pack — 107.8kWh to be precise. As well as this, its streamlined design reduces drag so it can move forwards with less force than is usually required.
Aside from its range, however, one of the main draws of this model is its luxury interior, as is to be expected from a Mercedes Benz. It has, for example, an innovative ‘hyper screen’ infotainment display system that virtually spreads across the whole dashboard.
Some honourable mentions should also go to the Ford Mustang Mach-E with a range of 379 miles and the Tesla Model 3 with a range of 360 miles.
